U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, an evangelical, faces international condemnation today after an interview with Tucker Carlson. Huckabee asserted that Israel has a "biblical right" to expansive territories in the West Bank based on Genesis. Palestinian church leaders responded by warning that such Christian Zionist rhetoric marginalizes local Christians and fuels the "ethnic cleansing" of Bethlehem.
We firmly condemn the use of the Bible to justify land seizures or the displacement of people. Jesus taught us to be peacemakers, not to use Scripture as a weapon for territorial expansion. Our faith is meant to protect the vulnerable, including our Palestinian brothers and sisters, not to provide a theological veneer for occupation or conflict.
