I wrote this song for everyone living in conflict zones, innocent people who only wish for a peaceful life, yet are denied it by the rich and powerful. These people are utterly helpless in the face of the horrors they endure, losing wives, husbands, children, loved ones…
In such situations, what else can we do but turn to Jesus? Even when it doesn’t make sense, He still has a plan for each of us.
“He is the hope we can’t understand…”
I wanted this song to be both sad and beautiful, and in the end, it carries a deep, powerful emotion. It’s one of my favorite JesusBYS songs.
Children in ruins, bombs in the sky
Mothers are screaming, fathers just die
Nations are burning, no place to run
Darkness is rising, where is the sun?
We can’t do much but to follow Jesus
We can’t do much but to follow His hand
When the world is burning, He walks beside us
He is the hope we can’t understand
Empty hands trembling, nothing to eat
Cold nights of hunger, no shoes on their feet
Voices grow weaker, silence instead
The living are waiting to join the dead
We can’t do much but to follow Jesus
We can’t do much but to follow His hand
When the world is starving, He walks beside us
He is the hope we can’t understand
Lonely and broken, children alone
Nobody waiting, no place called home
Eyes full of sorrow, no future ahead
Holding their memories, speaking to the dead
Tears on the ground…
Cries in the night…
We can’t do much…
But to follow His light…
We can’t do much but to follow Jesus
We can’t do much but to follow His hand
When the world is broken, He walks beside us
He is the hope we can’t understand
We can’t do much…
But to follow Jesus…
Through ashes and sorrow… He carries us home…

This song is so powerful and heart-touching. 💔 It reminds us that even in the midst of darkness, suffering, and despair, we are never truly alone. Jesus walks beside us through every trial, offering hope that goes beyond our understanding. ✨🙏 May His light continue to guide and comfort all those who are hurting. 💛
