This song was born from a simple, unapologetic conviction. A year doesn’t become good because of luck or New Year’s resolutions that fall apart after a few weeks. A year becomes good when you start it with Jesus, when you decide that every step, every fight, every joy and every setback will happen with Him. That’s the reminder I wanted to carve into a New Year anthem, something bursting with energy, something that makes you stand up and believe for real.
There was another intention behind it. I didn’t want a “whitewashed” Jesus or anything shaped by Western clichés. I wanted a Jesus with the colors of the sun, a Jesus who feels close, warm, vibrant, rooted in the light and culture of sunny countries. A Jesus who dances with us, walks with us, laughs with us, and embodies the same warmth we see in our people.
That’s why I chose a batucada atmosphere, the pulse of Brazil, the bright brass, the tamborims, the whistles, the crowd chants, that communal fire that makes a whole street come alive. Batucada is raw, loud, joyful, impossible to ignore. It gathers people, it turns rhythm into unity. It was exactly the feeling I needed to proclaim one truth: if you start your year with Jesus, then yes, it’s going to be a good year, a real one, a meaningful one, a year that moves.
“With Jesus, a Good New Year” is a celebration, an invitation to enter the new year dancing, believing, with your head high instead of surviving. It’s a song of faith, color, warmth, and hope that moves. Start your year like this, and it can only be a good one.
