The Rich Who Take, The Poor Who Bow explores the tension between power and submission in the world. It observes how wealthy and influential people often exploit resources, manipulate laws, and enrich themselves while others suffer.
At the same time, The Rich Who Take, The Poor Who Bow reflects on how many people unknowingly support or enable this imbalance, following leaders or systems that harm them in hopes of security or favor. The song asks who truly bears the blame—the one who takes or the one who allows it to happen.
Through its questions to Jesus, The Rich Who Take, The Poor Who Bow highlights the moral complexity of human choices and the consequences of both action and inaction in a world marked by injustice.
Low winds moan through empty streets
Truth lies dying at our feet
Jesus, I’ve been watching how this world turns
Rich men take the gold while the poor man burns
And every time I blink, another throne is raised
While the ones below stand there amazed
So I’m asking You straight, no poetry
Who’s the worst in this broken history?
Is it the rich who rob every field
Who bend the laws, who never yield
Who drink the rivers dry, then sell the rain
Who smile wide while they cause the pain
Or is it the poor who kneel in awe
Loving the hand that writes their law?
Cause I’ve seen beggars praise their kings
For scraps of hope and promised things
They cheer the men who steal their bread
They lift them high while their own hearts bleed red
So tell me Lord, who carries the sin
The one who strikes, or the one who lets him in?
Jesus, You walked among the blind and bruised
But this new world has got the roles confused
The rich play gods on golden chairs
The poor defend them like answered prayers
And I stand here lost in the twisted view
Asking which of them hurts You too
Jesus, who is the worst in Your eyes
The taker of life or the one who believes his lies
The man who steals, or the man who kneels
Praising the boot pressed on his heels
Jesus, tell me what You see
Cause it’s all turning into tragedy
Maybe we’re all trapped in the same old tale
Chasing the wind, doomed to fail
Maybe the devil don’t need to fight
When men choose darkness over light
But I’m still here asking in the cold
Who bears the blame in this world You foretold?
Jesus, who is the worst in Your eyes
The thief of the land or the fool who idolizes
Lord, I’m lost between guilt and grace
Trying to read the truth on Your face
Speak to me, Lord
Cause the world won’t
And I can’t tell who’s hurting You more
