Bridging Faith and Tech: Announcing the Awesome Christianity Project

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of a new open-source initiative by JesusBYS: Awesome Christianity.

At JesusBYS, our mission has always been to explore how faith intersects with our modern, digital world. By moving to GitHub, we are opening a new chapter where technology serves as a bridge to share gospel-centered resources, tools, and scholarship.

What is an “Awesome List”?

If you aren’t familiar with the world of software development, you might wonder what makes a list “Awesome.”

In the GitHub community, an Awesome List is a curated, high-quality collection of resources centered around a specific topic. Instead of a simple bookmark folder, it is a living document, a “map” of the best tools, libraries, and content available on the internet.

Why is this useful?

  • Curation over Noise: The internet is vast. We filter the noise to keep only what is truly valuable.
  • Centralization: No more searching through dozens of websites; everything is in one place.
  • Versioning: We can track how resources evolve over time.

Why are we doing this?

The Great Commission hasn’t changed, but the tools have. We believe that Christian resources, from theological databases and Bible study APIs to liturgical apps and digital art, should be easy to find and build upon.

By creating Awesome Christianity, we aim to:

  1. Empower Creators: Help Christian developers and content creators find the tools they need to build the next generation of ministry tech.
  2. Preserve Knowledge: Ensure that high-quality theological resources aren’t lost in the depths of search engine algorithms.
  3. Foster Community: Create a space where tech-savvy believers can collaborate.

We Need Your Help! (Join the Mission)

The beauty of an open-source project is that it belongs to the community. This list isn’t just ours; it’s yours.

Do you know a great Christian podcast? An open-source Bible software? A high-quality collection of public domain hymns? We want to hear about it!

How to participate:

  • Star the repository: Show your support on GitHub.
  • Contribute: If you have GitHub experience, submit a “Pull Request” to add a resource.
  • Suggest: Even if you aren’t “techy,” you can open an “Issue” to suggest a link you love.

Let’s build a digital library that honors God and serves the global Church.

“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” — Romans 12:4-5

Founder of JesusBYS

I am an entrepreneur who found faith through the trials of life. I don’t claim to be a theologian or a 'perfect' Christian; I am a seeker who discovered that Jesus’s strength is best revealed in our moments of weakness.

I write these articles to share the spiritual keys that helped me, and my team at JesusBYS, find hope and resilience. Today, alongside a dedicated collective of creators and professionals, we work to make Jesus’s timeless wisdom accessible to everyone navigating the challenges of the modern world.

  5. Beautiful initiative 🙏 May this project help many people discover faith, hope, and God’s love through technology. ✨

  6. This project is indeed an inspiring step in merging faith and technology, similar to what we’ve seen with initiatives like Faithlife, which uses tech to foster Christian community and learning. It’s interesting to note that nearly 70% of American teens say that technology helps them feel closer to God, highlighting the potential of platforms like Awesome Christianity to reach new audiences. Alex, Thony, and Elodie, your thoughts resonate deeply with this vision of using digital tools to spread hope.

  7. This initiative is a remarkable step towards integrating faith and technology. The growth of digital faith communities has been notable, especially during the pandemic when 73% of U.S. adults engaged with churches online. Leveraging tools like Awesome Lists can enhance resource accessibility and encourage collaboration among faith-based developers.

  8. Sarah, I completely resonate with your thoughts! This initiative is such a heartfelt way to connect faith and technology 🙏. It truly feels like a blessing to see digital tools being used to enrich our spiritual journeys, bringing together communities in new and creative ways.
